A day trip from Djerba – Berber life

Berber Life and Traditions in the Tunisian Desert

Starting from your hotel, our route leads to Toujane, where you will immediately be immersed in the magnificent landscapes of southern Tunisia’s Berber heartland.
You will be welcomed by Kamel into his home, where he and his family preserve a traditional way of life. While his mother and wife dedicate themselves to the local art of weaving, Kamel manages the land. He produces his own honey and olive oil and tends to his livestock. To crown this authentic encounter, he will serve you a typical Tunisian breakfast accompanied by traditional mountain-herb tea.

Spectacular Saharan Routes

The Saharan road that follows is spectacular, winding through canyons and along ridges bathed in warm hues. You will discover traditional Jesour farming, where every workable plot of land is planted with olive, fig, and almond trees.

The irrigation here is a masterpiece of local ingenuity: it functions naturally through an ancestral system of terraced dams that meticulously capture every drop of precious rainwater.

Matmata: A Legendary Stop at Hotel Sidi Driss

In Matmata, we will pause at the Hotel Sidi Driss (currently closed). This unique underground (troglodyte) establishment is world-famous for serving as a filming location for the Star Wars saga. After lunch at the hotel, our Southern Tunisian circuit continues into the afternoon.
