One week – Berber villages and Oases
Berber Villages and Desert Oases
Day 1 – Arrival in Djerba
Upon arrival at the airport, we will meet you for your transfer to Hotel Dar Ali. You will love the charm of this boutique-style establishment, which offers a peaceful start to your journey. Enjoy a relaxing first evening with our half-board (HB) package.
Day 2 – Djerba to Tataouine
Depart Djerba by 4×4 via the legendary Roman Causeway. Your route leads to Tataouine and the perched Berber village of Chenini for a historical immersion followed by a local lunch. The afternoon is dedicated to exploring the Ksour (fortified granaries).
As the day ends, head to Douiret for a timeless experience : dinner and an overnight stay in an authentic troglodyte residence, at the very heart of Berber traditions.
Day 3 – Tataouine / Ksar Ghilane / Zmela Lebrissa
Head toward the Ksar Ghilane oasis for a day suspended between water and sand. After a relaxing dip in the hot springs and lunch in the heart of the oasis, you can reach the desert fort via a camel trek (optional). Your Saharan adventure continues to our Zmela camp for an unforgettable night in the Great Erg. Experience true Saharan hospitality : a traditional fireside dinner, a night under the stars, and a taste of the famous sand-baked bread at dawn.
Note : From Sept 15 to June 15, you can choose a wild bivouac experience with camels departing from Ksar Ghilane.
D4 – Zmela Lebrissa / Douz
The adventure continues through the dunes and desert tracks to Douz, the “Gateway to the Sahara.” Once a stopover for nomads, this Bedouin town tells the story of a proud people who transitioned from caravan trade to settled life. After a lunch of local flavors in a typical restaurant, you will explore Zaafrane and Sabria, picturesque villages bordered by the shifting sands.
Accommodation : Dinner and overnight at the Hotel Sahara Douz (4)* for a well-deserved rest.
D5 – Douz / Tamerza / Tozeur
The day begins with a crossing of Chott el Jerid, a vast salt plain famous for its shimmering reflections and fascinating mirages. You will then climb toward the mountain oases: Chebika, Tamerza, and Mides. These “hanging gardens” are true havens of freshness, offering a striking contrast to the arid canyons nearby. After lunch in Tamerza, the adventure continues to Ong Jmel, world-famous as a filming location for the Star Wars saga.
Accommodation : Dinner and overnight at the charming Hotel Ksar Rouge 4* in Tozeur, known for its local architecture.
D6 – Tozeur / Matmata / Zammour
Spend the morning discovering Tozeur’s oasis and old town : wander through the lush palm groves and the historic quarter with its unique clay-brick facades. After lunch, cross the salt landscapes of the Chott once more to reach Matmata. Here, you will visit an authentic troglodyte home carved directly into the rock. Your journey then continues to the village of Zammour.
Accommodation : A unique overnight stay at the Dar Ennaim troglodyte hotel for total immersion in traditional living.
D7 – Zammour / Djerba
On your final morning, take the ridge road toward the Berber village of Toujane. A stop with the welcoming Kamel offers one last moment of mountain authenticity before returning to Djerba via the ferry. After a seafood lunch, explore Houmt Souk, the island’s capital, famous for its colorful markets and local crafts.
Accommodation : Return to Hotel Dar Ali for your final evening.
D8 – Djerba airport
We will organize your transfer to Djerba-Zarzis Airport according to your flight schedule. We hope you return home with a smile, a heart full of adventure, and memories to last a lifetime.
