Two days from Djerba or Zarzis

First day: Djerba / Ksar Ghilane / Zmela

Departure from the hotel around 08:00 (7:00 in summer) in 4 × 4 to Toujane. Berber breakfast at Kamel.

You will be able to experience the traditional Berber habitat. The family lives on growing olives, harvesting honey and raising a few sheep. Women work on carpet weaving.

Then road to Matmata and Zraoua old, very beautiful Berber village almost abandoned.

In Tamezret visit the small museum of culture and Berber traditions and lunch at Mongi (organic Berber cuisine). The opportunity to learn a lot about the ancient populations of the greater Maghreb region.

Then the road through the desert without sand will lead you to the dunes. Along this road you will undoubtedly see herds of camels with their babies and donkeys almost back to the wild life. A break in Ksar Ghilane, the most southern oasis of Tunisia that was created after the discovery of the hot spring that irrigates it now. Possibility of bath in the hot spring and camel ride (extra).

 

For the evening and the night: 2 possibilities:

 
– Continue by the track to Zmela camp in the desert where you can enjoy traditional food with bread baked in the sand, sleeping in beds in tents (or outdoors …).
– To leave with the camels of Ksar Ghilane for a night in bivouac. Traditional dinner around the wood fire, night under tent or under the stars. We provide a mattress and blanket per person. (from September to June)

 

Second day: Zmela / Ksar Ghilane / Djerba

For the return you will take the track to the east and discover ksar Guermessa

Then you will go to Chenini. Visit the village before lunch at the very nice troglodyte restaurant Kenza.

Then discovery of Ksar Ouled Soltane the most beautiful of the region.

Finally return to the island.
